There will be no extension of the present deadline for sim card registrations, according to the Minister of Communication, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful.
After the deadline of the end of July has passed, she stated, the directive to remove all unregistered sims would go into full effect.
As part of the Ahafo Regional Girls-in-ICT Initiative celebration conducted at Acherensua in the Asutifi South District on the topic “Access and safety,” Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful said this.
According to Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful, the country’s mobile phone users and subscribers had been given ample chance and time to register their SIM cards.
It’s impossible for her to extend the deadline again, she insisted.
Because the country’s efforts to combat internet and cybercrime had gotten more sophisticated, she said that SIM card registration was vital.
One of the Ministry of Communications and Digitalization’s (MoCD) key programmes, the Girls-in-ICT project, coincided with International Girls-in-ICT Day.
In 2012, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Member States endorsed this effort.
With the hope of increasing female participation in the rapidly expanding field of ICT, this initiative aimed to give girls and young women a reason to think about pursuing academic or professional pursuits in this rapidly expanding industry.
