2 Guys Jailed 36 Months Each For Stealing "Salah Ram" Valued Ghc 1,800.



A Duayaw-Nkwanta Circuit Court in the Tano North Municipality of the Ahafo Region presided over by His Lordship Edward Twum has sentenced two friends to 36 months imprisonment each for stealing a ram valued at GHS1,800, MyNewsGh.com reports.


Kwabena Felix, 18 and Kwadwo Saviour, 20 were found guilty of conspiracy contrary to section 23(1) of the Criminal and other offences act, 1960(Act 29) and stealing contrary to section 124(1) of the Criminal and other offences act, 1960(Act 29).

They both pleaded guilty to the charges and were convicted on their own plea.

Presenting the facts of the case to the Court, Prosecuting Officer Detective Inspector Mawuli Agbe disclosed that the complainant in the case is a driver while the first accused is a farmer and the second is unemployed all residing at Tuagyankrom a village near Derma.

He revealed that the accused persons on July 12, 2021, decided to steal one of the complainant’s sheep to sell.


On the day of the operation around 11:11 am, the accused persons went to the complainant’s pen and stole one ram valued at GHs 1,800, sent it to Derma to be sold to a witness in this case at the cost of GHS700.00.

The witness sensing the ram was stolen feigned interest in buying it and asked where the accused persons were coming from. After discovering their identity, he informed someone from the village the accused persons were coming from and the person identified the animal as the complainant’s own.

Immediately, they arrested the accused persons together with the ram and handed them over to the Police and later informed the complainant who followed up to lodge a report to that effect.


During investigations, the accused persons admitted the offence in their cautioned statements but indicated that life has been difficult for them hence his decision to steal.

The trial Judge before handing over their sentence said he arrived at this decision due to the rampant theft of livestock within the area.
